On the best way to climate neutrality

Regional wood chips fuel biomass heating location Wiggensbach

A new heating center with additional heat recovery from compressed air generation sends a strong signal for climate protection and efficiency. Every year, the company saves around 200,000 liters of oil and reduces around 550 tons of CO2. A contribution that Mal is happy to make as an alliance partner "Climate-neutral Allgäu".

"The new heating plant is a central component of the sustainability strategy at our site and helps us to save energy, emissions and costs," says Christian Kessler, Technical Managing Director of Swoboda Wiggensbach. The company is an alliance partner in "Climate-neutral Allgäu 2030", an initiative launched by EZA in 2020. Swoboda has been the first industrial company to be involved in the network since the beginning.

The efficiency of the plant is a significant step towards a climate-neutral future. Through the use of regional wood chips and the integration of modern technologies for heat recovery from compressed air generation, an annual heat production of approx. 1,250 MWh is achieved with an installed biomass heating capacity of 660 kW.

In addition, approx. 800 MWh of heat will be recovered from compressed air production. The plant's buffer tank has a volume of approx. 30,000 litres and a specific storage volume of approx. 43 litres per kW. This capacity enables efficient use of the heat generated and contributes to the reduction of approximately 550 tons of CO2 per year. The entire heating centre, transfer stations and heating lines have been completely renewed in recent years and are very modern.
